Perfectly Paranormal

#137 Kids, spirit visitors and death... How do you approach the subject?

Anna Schmidt

Do your kids ask about death? If so, what and how do you explain it all to them? Are you prepared for questions?  In this episode, you will hear Ben's struggle about how to talk with his young children, aged 3 and 6, about the death of a relative and the grief of their mother. Both kids are very psychic, and I made some suggestions to help the kids understand death, their mum’s grieving and not be afraid if grandma pops in to see them in spirit form in the middle of the night.

Suggested book for 3-6 year olds: Something very sad happened - Available online

Hello and here we are at Perfectly Paranormal episode 137

My name is Anna Schmidt, and I'm here every week to share with you true paranormal encounters and information about devils, demons and dark energy beings that no one else talks about. Today, today you will hear a dad’s struggle about how to talk with his young children, aged 3 and 6, about the death of a relative. Both kids are very psychic and I made some suggestions to help the kids understand death, their mum’s grieving and not be afraid if grandma pops into see them in spirit form in the middle of the night.

I will say before we start, I am not a medical doctor, psychologist or grief councillor but am sharing what Ben asked me as a long term client with psychic kids who I have helped in the past with paranormal issues in the home. Ben was concerned Great Grandma might appear and scare the children, and this intern might upset his wife. So, I got to thinking about the best way to approach Ben’s situation and concerns, and this was my response:

 Hi Ben,

I am sorry to hear of your wife's grandmother's passing. I bet she is watching all of you with lots of love for you all. I have some suggestions for how you could talk with your youngsters about death because being very open to the spiritual and paranormal worlds, they might get a visit or 2 from great grandma in spirit and be frightened or confused and can’t sleep and possibly not be able to tell you what they are seeing or feeling.

Young kids love books and the visual and storytelling aspect would be a relatable approach for me. I suggest finding books specifically written for 3-6 year olds that can help them understand death and you can mention how our beloved relatives like to watch over us from heaven and sometimes pop in to see how you are - in a dream, or might sit on your bed, tuck you in bed or sing you a song and it is all completely normal. If parents make it normal, then the kids will tell you their experiences and not feel judged.

I looked online and there are a lot of books on approaching grief and death for youngsters of all ages. I suggest approaching local libraries and grief councillors who work with kids as they might have a list of suitable books or you could look online.

I got on the web and was drawn to a book called ‘SOMETHING VERY SAD HAPPENED’ as a suggestion. This book is written at a developmental level, uses gentle age appropriate language, has been psychologically researched and gives lots of information for parents and care givers and guidelines for answering children’s questions about death and why others in their family are sad about the death of a loved one.

There were other books such as: ‘Nana upstairs, Nana downstairs’ and ‘What happens when a loved one dies?’ and I suggested doing some research and looking at books - the visuals and language used that you feel your children might understand.

I didn’t find any books talking about loved ones in spirit coming to visit but you could mention mum’s grandma might come to visit mummy and you to say Hello. Your wife might also benefit from reading the book/s with the kids and yourself, they are written for kids, but adults can benefit too.

Psychic kids and all kids are never too young to understand death and seeing passed relatives in spirit, in their dreams, etc. It is all absolutely completely normal.

So, in episode I38, you hear about the universal balance between light and dark, good and evil and how we humans fit into it all. And I share my experiences with overstepping the balance and paying for it. So, join me next week, and I look forward to spending time with you then.
