Hello, and here we are at Perfectly Paranormal episode 140

My name is Anna Schmidt, and I'm here every week to share with you true paranormal encounters and information about devils, demons and dark energy beings that no one else talks about. Today, today, you will reflect (pun intended) on the safety of mirrors in the home and delve into mirror scrying. As always, I have my own perspectives and experiences to share, and they may not be what you expect.

I personally have never considered mirrors to be portals, just putting that out there straight away, unless, and this is the catch, unless a portal is intentionally created in the mirror by someone doing mirror scrying and their intention is to connect to something on the other side, and we all know how dangerous that is. Entities wait patiently; they have all of eternity for us weak humans to intentionally invite them into our reality, and then the fun begins.

I do know someone afraid of old mirrors, the antique ones. She has her mother’s antique mirror in her home, and she covers it with a cloth at night. I asked her why she did this, and she said, "I have seen my dead mother looking at me from inside that mirror more than once.” I listened carefully and my response was, “Maybe she wants to say hello and let you know she loves you and is watching over you and loves that you have her favourite antique in your home.” My friend stopped drinking her tea and said, “Hmmm, I never thought of it that way before, thank you.” After that, her mum was never seen in the mirror again as her message had been received and she could get on with whatever we do in the afterlife.

Old mirrors with the silver or lead backing were often thought to trap spirits, and that’s why they were covered after someone died in the early I800’s. Again, this, I think, comes from people scrying, which simply means – looking into a reflective surface to see what you can see… usually with an intention to connect to inner wisdom, their spirit guides, but the paranormal or some supernatural force wait and slip into people and spaces… dangerous. People have used mirrors, or polished dark glass such as flat obsidian plates, crystal balls or even water for scrying since ancient Egyptian times. Scrying puts people willingly or unknowingly into a trance-like state, which opens their minds, bodies and consciousness to outside influences that don’t necessarily leave when the scrying session is finished.

Old folklore and superstitions have many mirror and scrying tales, such as when a person died, you would cover the mirrors in the home so their soul wouldn’t be captured in it and that goes along with leaving a window open so the soul can escape and also stopping all clocks in the home at the hour of death ( not sure why this was done).

Spirit and other entities, as we know, can reside in, on, around or be attached to items for many reasons, such as emotional or trauma reasons, because of magical practices or simply because they loved the item for sentimental reasons.

If mirrors are used in spiritual practices, ceremonies or rituals, the energy doorways in or connected to the mirrors need to be closed. I find with universal requests, I say the wording outloud to give extra oomph to the vibration created with the words.

Also too, people often think of mirrors as protective surfaces and carry them in their pockets or have purposefully placed mirrors in their homes. Feng shui uses mirrored surfaces for directing energy, lightening dark corners, or assisting in readjusting the size of rooms, for example. 

I was told by many people to manifest mirrored protection around me when I was under magic attack… it didn’t work, I tried 5 different ways. It didn’t work because practitioners have many, many ways to get to a person’s energy and it is all very complicated.

Do I do mirror scrying? A big No on that one. I don’t look into mirrors for any other reason than to make sure I look decent before I leave the house. My paranormal addiction, if I chose to do scrying work, might attract paranormal entities, and I have enough to deal with daily without extra loiterers, so I don’t do it… I know my limitations, and I don’t want any more supernatural distractions.

The reason people often "see" strange things in darkened room with mirrors and candle light is because they don't register the full image, it is a fleeting glimpe or you wants to see something so badly that your brain grabs that scary image from the movie you watched last night that was loitering in the back recesses of your mind and your brain just fills in the blanks. Then people panic because they end up seeing odd, strange and unrecognisable shapes, people or experiences, just like when I shut my bedroom door at night, and I think I catch a glimpse of a human shape in the hallway outside my door as it closes… There might be a spirit there, but I don’t give it any attention, and it goes away. 

Mirrors are simply reflective material, and everything you see in them is a reflection of what your brain interprets in the environment around you. Pareidolia – seeing what we want to see in items, dark rooms, etc, also applies to mirrors. I did a whole episode back is episode #II3, if you want to check it out.
